Summary

The New York Times bestselling author of Life's Too Short delivers a refreshingly modern fairy tale perfect for fans of Casey McQuiston and Emily Henry。

After a wild bet, gourmet grilled-cheese sandwich, and cuddle with a baby goat, Alexis Montgomery has had her world turned upside down。 The cause: Daniel Grant, a ridiculously hot carpenter who’s ten years younger than her and as casual as they come—the complete opposite of sophisticated city-girl Alexis。 And yet their chemistry is undeniable。

While her ultra-wealthy parents want her to carry on the family legacy of world-renowned surgeons, Alexis doesn’t need glory or fame。 She’s fine with being a “mere” ER doctor。 And every minute she spends with Daniel and the tight-knit town where he lives, she’s discovering just what’s really important。 Yet letting their relationship become anything more than a short-term fling would mean turning her back on her family and giving up the opportunity to help thousands of people。

Bringing Daniel into her world is impossible, and yet she can’t just give up the joy she’s found with him either。 With so many differences between them, how can Alexis possibly choose between her world and his?

Excuse me while I buy all of Abby Jimenez’s backlist。 I loved this book。 It was perfect。 It is the most well-written romance I’ve ever read。 All of the characters seemed so real and conceptualized。 The real talk with trauma was handled expertly。 Even for a book that lacked explicit romance, the intimacy between the leads was incredible。 The Princess Bride quotes were the cherry on top。

Super cute!

Amazing is the best word to describe this book。 I think this is probably the best book I’ve read this year。 The storyline is so good and interesting the entire book。 Nothing is predictable, nothing is boring。 Great book!

I LOVED this book。 I am so sad it had to end。 It was so cozy, and lovely。 To be honest- it was a bit triggering with emotional abuse content so that was a little hard to get through。 But the book was lovely, I loved Daniel, Alexis and Hunter the dog。 I would visit Wakan and never leave。

So this was an emotionally traumatizing book。 (I mean, I'm being a little bit overdramatic, but it did wear me out while I read it。)Overall I enjoyed it, because I enjoyed getting to see Alexis figure out herself and what was important to her。 I also loved the fact that Daniel was so sweet and did so much to help her on that journey。But don't go into this one thinking it's going to be all rainbows and sunshine (which I knew it wasn't going to be, because I've read other books by this author) and So this was an emotionally traumatizing book。 (I mean, I'm being a little bit overdramatic, but it did wear me out while I read it。)Overall I enjoyed it, because I enjoyed getting to see Alexis figure out herself and what was important to her。 I also loved the fact that Daniel was so sweet and did so much to help her on that journey。But don't go into this one thinking it's going to be all rainbows and sunshine (which I knew it wasn't going to be, because I've read other books by this author) and also be cautious if you're at all sensitive to mental/emotional/physical abuse and people who are gaslighters。 You can check out the rest of my rambles on this book when it goes live on Randomly Kait on 5/13/22 。。。more

Abby Jimenez is a favorite author so it's always fun when a new book comes out。 She weaves in past characters too which is entertaining。 In this book, Alexis and Daniel fall for each other despite a significant age and social class gap。 Alexis' fixation on carrying on her family's traditions seemed a bit contrived but otherwise this was an enjoyable and fast-paced read。 Abby Jimenez is a favorite author so it's always fun when a new book comes out。 She weaves in past characters too which is entertaining。 In this book, Alexis and Daniel fall for each other despite a significant age and social class gap。 Alexis' fixation on carrying on her family's traditions seemed a bit contrived but otherwise this was an enjoyable and fast-paced read。 。。。more

Hands down my favorite author。 Love reading everything Abby writes。 This book was full of love, hope, and lots of ~grace~

The only bad thing about this book was the fact that I spent the entire three days I was reading it scream singing that Little Mermaid song (bc how else does one sing that song?) constantly。 Seriously, Abby Jimenez can do no wrong。 She is the queen of romance, the queen of TikTok, and I hear she makes some pretty great cakes。 My kind of triple threat。

I always enjoy a good Jimenez book。 That said, this is not her best。 Jimenez has carved out a niche in the rom-com that also addresses real issues - infertility, debilitating bereavement and grief, this book does not do it as well as the others, and I felt like I wanted to get my hands on it to edit it a bit better, get rid of some of the 'black-blah-blah' parts, where the characters goes around and around in their heads too much。 And while the ultimate resolution is a good one in that it is not I always enjoy a good Jimenez book。 That said, this is not her best。 Jimenez has carved out a niche in the rom-com that also addresses real issues - infertility, debilitating bereavement and grief, this book does not do it as well as the others, and I felt like I wanted to get my hands on it to edit it a bit better, get rid of some of the 'black-blah-blah' parts, where the characters goes around and around in their heads too much。 And while the ultimate resolution is a good one in that it is not simplistic, the conclusion is not unexpected - we are told what is coming very early on by a side character。 There is just a little too much in this book that feels rushed, like the publisher wanted to get it out - one a year it seems - to capitalize on the author's popularity, but that kind of popularity doesn't fade。 I would almost always read a Jimenez, unless her next one is too much like this one that doen't really delve into the issues, has too many two-dimensional characters who are almost caricatures: her parents, her so-called 'friends' (not Bree), where is the evidence of this loving relationship with her brother? Non-Existent。 Next time, the publisher should give the writer the time she needs to do what she does best - write a REALLY GOOD book instead of relying on her previously genuinely good books。What does work? The small town is a character in and of itself, and dare I say, it is one of the most charming in the book。 And the late night call between the two main characters near the end of the book? One of the best of its kind。I tentatively look forward to Jimenez's next boo, whenever it comes out, but I hope it is better than this one and returns to the previous standard she has set for herself and her readers。 。。。more

Wonderful! I really enjoy Abby Jimenez's romances - they are pure indulgence in "fairytale" romance。 And sometimes that's just what you need。 Lots of heart and sweetness。 This book was no exception。 Looking forward to more。 Wonderful! Umm…I loved it。 Part of Your World (did I miss the Ariel references?)。 I am a sucker for finding yourself in a small town。 There are slight Virgin River/Hart of Dixie vibes, which I’m here for。 Alexis realizing her longtime ex-boyfriend (and father) are emotionally abusive and how she awakened to the control they had on her…I thought it was really well done and relatable。I loved reading the author’s note about Wakan and the house, particularly the stained glass window。 That gave it Garden Spell Umm…I loved it。 Part of Your World (did I miss the Ariel references?)。 I am a sucker for finding yourself in a small town。 There are slight Virgin River/Hart of Dixie vibes, which I’m here for。 Alexis realizing her longtime ex-boyfriend (and father) are emotionally abusive and how she awakened to the control they had on her…I thought it was really well done and relatable。I loved reading the author’s note about Wakan and the house, particularly the stained glass window。 That gave it Garden Spell vibes。And we also get to see the tiniest bit of a character from a previous book, so that was fun。 。。。more

OK, so this book was simply AMAZING! It never felt forced, and I genuinely had no idea how the book would end! Probably one of the top 3 books I've read this year。 Plus, it has a baby goat in pajamas?! How could you not love that? The book centers around Daniel and Alexis, who live two very different lives。 However, whenever they're together, nothing else really matters。 Their witty banter, the chemistry, and the angst were palpable。 Combine that with the dual POV, and it was practically the perf OK, so this book was simply AMAZING! I adore her! She truly grounds Alexis, who is dealing with so much whenever she goes back home。 She struggles with making her family happy, following traditions, and what she wants。 She's one conflicted person。However, let's not forget to mention that the book covers some serious issues such as physical and emotional abuse。 But this contemporary romance doesn't make light of it either。 A truly excellent read。 。。。more

It was。。。mediocre。 At best。" This was good。 And thought provoking。 And thoughtful。 And respectful。 It touched on some tough topics, not the least of which is the tendency of society as a whole to judge situations that they have only superficial or second hand knowledge of。 I liked watching Alexis come to grips with the reality of her family and their expectations。 (Side note: It made me really, really thankful that my parents have never expressed any expectations for us, other than that we be happy in what we do and take responsibility for our actions。) I also liked that the situation with Neil (the horrid ex) didn't turn out the way I thought it would; that he actually seemed to be doing some serious self-reflection。 And Daniel。 Oh, boy。 Daniel was amazing。 He was thoughtful, gave Alexis room when she needed it, was there whenever she needed him, and leaned on Alexis when he needed shoring up。 He was earnest and loving, but not a doormat, and just the perfect complement to Alexis, even though they didn't appear to have much in common。 。。。more
